In several discussions about the new update I read that primary monks should stick to what they are meant to do: healing.

I have to dissagree! The monks have a wide scale of skills that can make lots of differend builds. Playing the healer is just one of them, and for me, one of the most boring. The smiter build is much more interesting. In combination with other professions a monk certainly can be a good tank, only... He would need another monk to heal him in a party. Whats wrong with that? And before you answer that a warrior always makes a better tank I think I can state with ease that even a crippled UW solo monk can easily defeat a warrior if both were supported by the same healing monk

Remember the UW solo is using an exploit, the warrior ain't.

Otherwise, yes, monks are under appreciated for being anything other than a healer. I don't play a monk myself, because it just isn't my style, but so many people will say no to anything but a healer. People will never learn, so play with people who appreciate smiting or something other than watching people's health bars.....your best bet is to go somewhere in kryta near the early and late parts, so you can be useful for taking on undead, otherwise i dunno, convince them...

i myself an active pvp monk find that healing monks and vastely underappreciated, where as in example, lets say a group just flawlessed

warrior/ele/ w/e says omgzors my leet skills got us flawless!
while the healing monks say omgzors my leet skills kept you from dying so we could even flawless, needless to say the warrior/ele w/e doesnt care and think hes king of the world, so next time the monks will prolly let him die

if a party loses, everyone is like, omfg monks, wtf where you guys doing, i needed healing!

people have to understand that tanking and healing the entire party while gauging your energy and health for when to use what, is not a easy thing to do, i say tanking and healing, b/c best bet is that you will be #1 target b/c ur a monk, so you now have to take dmg, heal others, and keep yourself alive

all these whiners that complain omfg monks where wuz my healin, need to make a heal monk and see what its like to be on the other end of the stick.

I agree that Smitting is allot more fun. Also it comes in very useful too. I have swapable armor so I can Level Up my smitting when I feel the need. I usually carry 12 healing, 11 Smitting, 8 Protection, 12 Divine. Smitting skills/spells can finish off a tough monster that keeps healing it's self. I also like seeing allot of -55's pop up when I Smite Hex a Warrior in a Melee fight.

The UW solo build was never an exploit in the terms of doing something not intended to be in the game.

The spell (Prot Bond) is made so that you only take 5% of your maximum health from damage. If you have less health, naturally, you will be taking less damage. The ammount taken can easily be healed over as soon as it is gained. This is still available to the game, just that you lose more energy on impact.

This is not an exploit; just an extremely powerful PvE build.

Monks are underapreciated, but what can you do. I just sit there watching their little bars go back and forth, if they yell I ignore. They know that if I really wasn't doing anything they'd all be dead. Eventually they shut up

PS: The exploit could be said to be the fact that you ar eusing a balancing mechanic to gain even more power. That in reality is an exploit as you are changing the way something in the game works to your favor.

Well I had a lot of fun with my monk, but now I guess it's time to make a decision. Sell everything she owns and use her character slot for something semi-useful, or go and get yelled at by W/Mo's while trying to heal in Team Arenas. Goodbye replayability.

This discussion amuses me ... my monk is a farming hamster now that farms like there is no tomorrow ... I should break 8 million XP later today.

Lol, good one. We should now ban all necros from the game! They exploit corpses!!!e4242HAX!!!

PS: I am not hating :P I am stating that in all technicallity this is as much an exploit as anyother misdoing. ts not cheating persay but you get far more exp/skillpoints that someone who can't/won't. I personally prefer to farm in a manner that takes skill, not mindless button mashing

the fact that monks are not treated fairly is true. but what can you do. it will be that way for ever. poeple expect us to heal every one and our self. it reminds me of a time a couple of tanks tould me they didnt need me after i saved their asses, so i told them i was don healing if there were so good. and they died. right before there left the game for me not healing them, they said that all monks are assholes that think there the best players in the game. i have one thing to say to that, its not that we think were the best, its that we enjoy helping others then get yelled at when some one dies. that just pisses us off so we get back and prove our worth.
